Which journals does the BMJ Publishing Group Ltd publish?
The BMJ Group publishes 24 journals covering a wide range of medical specialties, many of which are leaders in their field. Please visit the BMJ Journals homepage for further information.

Which journals are available online?
All journals published by The BMJ Group are available online, hosted by HighWire Press.

BMJ and BMJ Clinical Evidence are *not* included but can be added to your subscription list at a reduced rate.
The Student BMJ is not included as it is currently available free online.

Which archives are available with my subscription?
Your subscription includes access to all available back archives, Full Text (PDF and HTML) where available.

Does BMJ PG give perpetual access once my subscription has expired?
BMJ Journals Online Collection customers are guaranteed a perpetual licence to all content published during the period of their licence agreement.

What is the BMJ Journals archiving policy?
BMJ Journals will deposit one copy of each journal for indexing at the US National Library of Medicine at Bethesda, Maryland, USA. The US National Library of Medicine is currently undertaking a digitisation project which will allow users to access all archives over 3 years old free via their website.

Access

How do I activate my online subscription?
First, you must agree to the terms and conditions of our Single Site Licence Agreement.

To accept the terms click [accept] at the bottom of the agreement. You will then be taken to a institutional activation page. You will need your 6 digit customer number, which is found on the address label of your print journal. If you have forgotten/lost your customer number, or are an online only customer, please contact Subscription Customer Services

The BMJ Group activate subscriptions for Consortia Customers, Institutions with multiple sites and subscribers to the BMJ Journals Collection. We require your full contact details and all IP addresses.

Can I change our IP address details?

Do individual users in my institution need a username and password?
No. For the majority of institutional subscribers the access is seamless through IP address recognition.

NHS customers may access BMJ Journals via institutional username and password or Athens authentication. Please contact your regional administrator for details.

Does my online subscription include remote access?
Yes, as long as authentication is via Athens usernames and passwords or institutional usernames and passwords via a secure institutional proxy server.

Is special software needed to access BMJ Journals online?
No. Only internet access is required.

Are BMJ Journals online Athens compliant?
ALL institutional subscribers are able to access any BMJ Journal via Athens authentication. First the institution / organisation must register with Athens, second, the Athens ID must be associated with your institutional account. You can do this by contacting our Subscription Customer Services with your Athens ID.

What do I do if I experience access problems to the journals?

How do I activate my subscription to Evidence-Based Nursing Online?
All institutional subscriptions to Evidence-Based Nursing need to by authenticated by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN). Access is provided via cookie or IP authentication. For further details please contact Phil Whomes at the RCN.

Site Licencing

What is our definition of a single site?
We define a single site as one geographic location (academic or non-academic) that is under a single administration.

What are our definitions of a multi site?

1. Organisations located in more than one city.
2. Organisations which have multiple locations in the same city administered independently.

What does the single site licence cover?
The BMJ Group Ltd single site licence allows online access to the subscribed journals by all an institution’s authorised users at one site. The licence allows users to download, print and save articles for personal use. It also allows the inclusion of material in course packs, and inter-library loan.

What does the multi site licence cover?
For all multi site enquiries, please contact the Sales Team

Who from my institution can access the journals online?
Full and part-time employees, staff, independent contractors and students officially affiliated with the institution at the authorized site and persons with legal access to the library using valid IP addresses.

How are subscriptions priced?
Institutional online subscriptions are based on relevant Full Time Equivalents (FTE) bands. For further details, please read the Institutional Subscriptions - Additional Information 2007

Are there special prices for purchasing the entire collection?
BMJPG Ltd are happy to negotiate a highly discounted price for institutions wishing to subscribe to the complete online BMJ journals collection whether an institution wishes to go online or maintain their current print subscription.

Usage Statistics

How do I access usage statistics for my institution?
ONLY the Account Administrator has access to the institution's usage statistics. Access requires username and password.

Subscribers to multiple journals can access usage statistics for all their journals in just one report through the HighWire Portal. A one-time, four step registration is required. For more information go to How to Begin
